I always look forward to the moment the Frieze art fair rolls into LA, a city that - to me at least - sparkles with a vibrancy, energy, and optimistic exuberance that is reflected in the selection of the art on display. This year, I was impressed by the work of these six talented artists. Hopefully you'll discover a new artistic crush too…
Expressionist portraits inspired by late-nineteenth-century decadent art and literature. Very brooding flâneur anno 2024 with a hint of sexy je-ne-sais-quoi.

Amoako Boafo has been a rising star in the art world for a while now, and deservedly so. The arresting portraits of this talented Ghanaian artist look you straight in the eye. Combined with the bright colors that splash off the canvas, they always leave a lasting impression on me.

Scenes of everyday leisure come alive in Martinez's fresh and eye-catching style. The artist's subjects, characterized by their brown skin, are painted in a distinctively flat yet vibrant manner, thanks to the use of poppy colours. Her signature approach makes Martinez's work instantly recognizable. It also immediately brings me in a happy mood.

What's delightful about McKinniss's art is how it cheekily marries the glitzy world of contemporary celebrity with the dignified, classical charm and rich colour palette of oil painting.

Who knew naps and fruit bowls could be exhilarating to look at? Maria Klabin conjures life and motion out of the mundane - transforming sleeping subjects and serene still lifes into dynamic artworks.

Anyone who finds themselves yawning at the mere mention of the term "landscape painting" will be pleasantly surprised by Whitney Bedford's bright and contemporary interpretations of this classic concept.
